Curiosity and property about the Jade stone
Jade is not really a mineral, but rather a stone made of particular minerals (jadeite and nephrite) distributed within it in a structure made of very fine granules and interlaced fibres.
Jadeite is formed only in small quantities as crystals.
The oldest jade objects found date back to about 7,000 years ago and because of its hardness it was used to produce weapons (for example, in pre-Columbian America it was used to make ritual knives and, more recently, funeral masks).
After the conquest of Central America by the Spaniards, the art of carving was lost, while in China the work never stopped and for over 5,000 years jade was used to make cult objects; in particular pieces of jade were placed in the mouths of the Chinese dead because it was believed that this stone prevented the decomposition of the bodies.
For the Chinese, jade is a stone with strong power, since ancient times it has been a symbol of nobility, perfection, constancy and immortality; for millennia, jade has been part of the life of the Chinese of all categories and classes, so much so that it is considered the most spiritual of all precious stones.
According to popular Chinese belief, the jade stone was used to ward off evil spirits; this belief has survived to the present day and has entered Western culture where it is often used as a talisman.
