Property and curiosity about the Pyrite stone
The term “pyrite” derives from the Greek pyr, “fire” in fact, if you strike it with a piece of metal it generates sparks, hence the name flint, and in antiquity, for this reason, it was thought to actually contain fire inside, it was used as an amulet for therapeutic purposes and to warm the body.
In the Middle Ages, it was confused with gold because of its gold-like colour, and was known as the ‘gold of fools’.
